As part of the efforts to modernise its bus fleet, STIB has launched a pilot project with 20 electric buses.
The buses will be charged at night in the depot, allowing them to operate completely autonomous during the day. STIB requested ENGIE Fabricom to provide the electrical equipment needed for the charging infrastructure. ENGIE installed a substation connected to the high-voltage grid at Jacques Brel bus depot. This is still a trial project, so the substation was delivered in a container that was placed in the bus parking area.
This type of project clearly reflects ENGIE’s ambition to make Belgium a role model in energy efficiency. With the extensive expertise of our teams, we aim to rejuvenate our homes, streets and infrastructures by offering solutions that are more digital-based, efficient, safe and green.
